My students need Wobble Stools and Yoga Balls to stay active while learning, fruit snacks to eat healthy, and Kleenex, Clorox Wipes, and sanitizer to keep the germs away.
I currently have 17 energetic first graders who are eager to learn every day. Our Title I school is fully emerged in STEAM learning and we do our best to ensure all students have access to various technologies and STEAM materials that are not available to them anywhere else. While they are using these materials every day, they are moving throughout the classroom as part of our student-centered classroom.
My first graders love to learn about anything, especially when it involves coding, making, and building!
They love to be actively engaged and it shows when they are using materials they love. This inquisitive group of kids continue to amaze me each and every day!
My Project
Healthy students and keeping kids in school is paramount to their academic success. We are always promoting healthy lifestyles and how to stay healthy but need some supplies to make that possible. Our classroom uses flexible seating during the entire school day. I have noticed students that are able to "get their wiggles" out by bouncing and moving throughout the day, are able to stay focused longer.
Adding 2 yoga balls and 2 wobble stools will give students more options to sit at a space that allows them to move while they are working and learning.
Moving while learning, not only helps with focus, but gives them some exercise throughout the day, rather than sitting in one space. A healthy and active body leads to a healthy and active brain! We also need supplies to allow our students to stay in school and not be home sick as much as possible. The Kleenex, Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer, and personal dry erase markers will do just that. Eliminating the spread of germs in the classroom will help them stay healthy and spend more time in school. This year, our class has started to eat healthy as well. No candy or sugary drinks are permitted in our classroom. Giving students some additional healthy snacks during brain breaks is a must.
