I teach in a rural community elementary school in northeast Florida. I have an amazing group of students. They all bring different strengths to our classroom. We treat our class as a family. The goal of my classroom is to meet every student where they are and help them grow both academically and socially.
Our county has a 21.4% poverty level.
Our school currently has about 1,200 students. Being a rural community, we only have one elementary school that serves the entire county.
My Project
I am slowly trying to implement flexible seating options into my classroom and do away with our desks. With the addition of flexible seating options, it will allow our classroom to be a more inviting learning environment. The table and chairs for this project will be for my front row of seating. We have high top seating in the back of the room, tables in the middle, and the addition of this table and chairs would be amazing for the front of the room.
I want my classroom to be an inviting learning environment.
Implementing flexible seating options is a huge undertaking, and little by little, I hope to accomplish this. It will allow the students to feel at home, and want to come in ready to learn!
