They welcome students who are different and they have an amazing ability to care for each other.
Our school is deemed high poverty. Over 60% of my students are eligible for free and reduced breakfast and lunch and our school now has every child able to have free lunch and breakfast. My students are very diverse and many of my wonderful students are deemed at-risk. Our student population is 39% Anglo; 14% African American/Black; 16% Alaskan Native and American Indian; 7% Asian; 6% Hispanic; 3% Filipino; 15% multiracial. We also have active duty military families at our school because we are located close to two active military bases and one National Guard base.
My Project
I remember being absolutely surprised by starting my period at elementary school. I had no idea that this change was going to happen to me.
These are emergency supplies for my girls who start their menstrual cycle at school and are not prepared for this event.
Also included are some basic hair care supplies as well; hair ties, dry shampoo and hair brushes. This can also be a challenge for many of my girls as well. Dry Shampoo would allow the girls as well as the boys to eliminate greasy hair that stands out in the classroom.
The final item is deodorant wipes. This would allow the kids do a bird bath or spit bath since our school does not have a shower.
