Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in my classroom are highly motivated, hard workers. Though a large percentage of my students face one or a combination of challenges, including Dyslexia, autism, ADHD, and many are English Language Learners, our campus is recognized for academic success.
Beyond this desire to learn and excel, my students are hungry for rigorous music education.
Almost all our neighboring cities provide the opportunity to be part of an orchestra program, and yet, at a campus with such dedicated and eager children, an orchestra program is not yet an option because we lack the resources. My goal is to provide, as research has constantly demonstrated, the benefits of a string arts program for these deserving children, and a well-rounded education befitting such an excellent campus.
My Project
We are so close to the start of our orchestra program, and yet still missing our most important item. We have violins in their cases, and now we also have the shoulder rests to secure them to our shoulders, and bows to produce a sound. Due to budgets being used for academic programs and other incentives, our music program has yet to see financial support from our district and campus. We want the chance to prove ourselves worthy of district and campus recognition by beginning our orchestra program that so many students and their families are interested in.
The children and I are eager to begin this new journey together, and to share it with our loved ones!
We are in desperate need of new Red Label Violin String Sets to replace all of the old rusted strings. Besides limiting the quality of the sound each instrument can achieve, the old strings we currently have pose a serous health issue to our young students. The possibility of having rust rub off on children's hands is the main reason we have yet to begin our classes on the violin. Thank you for considering our project!
