Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

On the near east side of Indianapolis, our middle school boasts a diverse student population that comes from over 25 elementary schools throughout the city. Our band program is continuing to grow with over 150 students between the school day and after school. Most students are learning an instrument for the first time. The band experience brings out a lot of excitement in our students and school culture.

Beyond learning how to play an instrument, they learn how to be a part of a team.

This team bonding and relationship building transcend the band classroom. By supporting the band students, you are helping build a better culture at our school. Thank you for your support of the band.

My Project

In band, percussion students play a variety of instruments including a variety of mallet percussion instruments. These include xylophone, marimba, chimes, glockenspiel, and vibraphone. The vibraphone was originally created in Indianapolis and is unique in its design with pedal to sustain notes. We do not currently own a vibraphone at the school.

Vibraphone with its pedal and its beautiful sound is a wonderful way for students to grow as percussionists!

This instrument is also a great gateway into introducing jazz to young musicians. Other student, who are not percussionists, will also have the opportunity to learn and play the vibraphone. Thank you for your support!
