My students need headphones so we can work with multimedia from the web in the same room without driving one another crazy. Also, a microphone for making our own videos!
My students attend a medium-sized urban magnet school. The school is very diverse with several sizable immigrant communities and a significant amount of economic challenge. We have a rich set of programs to offer the students ranging from the arts to robots and numerous sport teams.
Despite the challenges present in the surrounding communities, it is typical for my students to talk about future careers in medicine and engineering as well as top colleges and universities.
I see it as my job to help them get their by removing any barriers I can.
My Project
I have Chromebooks in my classroom and my students love them, but we run into trouble whenever we work with multimedia. As each student plays a file, their audio overlaps with their neighbors and can be quite distracting. Simple headphones will allow students to work with audio and video with more focus and less distraction.
The ability to work effectively on something that feels important is so important to students.
Removing distractions when I can validates students' work and humanizes their educational experience.
Some of my students also want to up our game when it comes to making videos. For them, a microphone will seriously enhance the quality of videos they can make and that I can then share with their classmates.
