Celebrating Black History Month

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Our school music program has been a choral-focused program throughout its long history. Elementary school music programs have evolved over the years so I would love to give our Title I school similar experiences and opportunities during their early music education. My students have loved their experiences with the few instruments at this school, so I'm pushing to expand our instrument inventory.

We recently got fully funded for the first batch of drums by our wonderful donors on this site and we are now in need of a Medium Freestyle Kente Cloth Rope Tuned Djembe and a Percussion Gathering Drum to complete a classroom set!

This project will be a step in the right direction to have our students experience a 1-to-1 drum usage instead of having to wait for everyone to get a turn with the undamaged drums.

Our music program believes in linking all primary subjects with music lessons for relatability and lifelong lessons. These drums will help make those music lessons easier to understand and more interactive while inviting them to learn about different cultures!
