Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My athletes are in a kindergarten through eighth-grade school located in an urban district. Our school serves 100% free breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is served in the classroom, and students do not switch classrooms much at the younger grades. Most of my students are from Spanish-speaking households.
My students need to be active and moving while learning.
Their learning with technology should be hands-on. Instead of wondering what they could do, it would be great for my students to have the materials to be "can do" people.
My Project
"Video killed the radio star", or so the song goes. Announcements are hard to hear over the PA system in the school. Students do not want to focus on the voice in the sky (or ceiling as it may be). Students want to see people on the screen, even better if it is people that they know, telling them what is going on. My students love watching videos online, with people telling them about games or toys they already know about. For some reason, this really attracts them. I would like to do morning announcements on air (pre-recorded) with the MacBook and then upload them for the students viewing pleasure. I would like the students to work on pre-programmed sections that don't change from day to day, such as the flag salute. This will take some time for students to learn how to tell their story in a creative way using the Mac.
Before we get to announcements I think it would be useful for students to read stories on camera and have them as links for the younger students.
The younger students can access them and read along with a bigger student. This will help build confidence in the younger students reading and the bigger student's "camera" presence for telling stories. The adapters will help directly plug in the computer to the projector. The case and keyboard cover will help from student wear and tear.
