Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first grade students are energetic and eager to learn! They are very diverse and about 60 % of them can speak English and another language. About 60% come from low income families and receive free and reduced lunch. These students are highly motivated by hands on activities. They walk in the door eager to get the day started and are happy to see their classmates. Some do not have access to blocks or other materials that allow them to build, create and play.
My Project
These hands on materials will help my students jumpstart their day. They will arrive to school looking forward to some much needed time to explore and create with their classmates. Sometimes play can be overlooked. It is an important part of school! Morning tubs are a great way to incorporate play as well as learning. To help students transition in the morning. Through play my students will practice much needed social skills. Skills such as sharing, taking turns and team work. This opportunity will allow students to easily transition into more challenging tasks such as reading in writing. They will be fresh and prepared to learn.
