I teach 20 1st graders at a Title I elementary school. These 20 students are so very resilient. Even through the unknowns this year, (schedule changes, virtual learning, inclement weather), we have continued to grow, and they have continued to do their best. We are a diverse group of students, both in academic needs and personal interests. Despite those adversities, my students also have many things in common. It has been a joy to watch them discovering those similarities, and it has been a bright spot in such an abnormal school year. Even through social distancing, these things have been able to bring my class together and help us feel more like a close community.
My Project
We complete so many activities that require sound during the day. Each website we use is tailored to each student's needs so they are all on different levels. They need to be able to hear their lessons during class practice time. They include several lesson videos and songs. There are many times we need to be able to learn on our own, and it is so hard for them to hear right now. We are also in need of headphones for our TEAMS meetings so that each child can hear.
Having headphones will help ensure each child is engaged and can participate with limited distractions during class.
I want to be sure that each child is able to work on their own levels. These will also be helpful when we have to participate in virtual learning. Several students are in households with siblings also online. This can make the background noise much heavier during meetings. Having these headphones would help in so many different areas of our learning!
