My students come from very low-income areas with very diverse backgrounds. Due to different circumstances, their families are unable to provide manipulatives, literature, or other materials needed to make adequate growth. So, as their teacher, it is my mission to help supply them with what they need to leave my class at grade level or above. The path to college starts in kindergarten, and my students deserve the very best!
Due to circumstances they cannot control, my students come in far below their grade level peers.
Every day three groups of five students visit my classroom library during centers. This is the time where they get to explore through books and visit a whole other world within the classroom. This is the time they get to learn to love reading and to practice the skills we learn during guided reading. These book shelves, plastic baskets, and fun seating will make our classroom library easily accessible, more appeasing to the eye, and make it easier for the scholars to read books on their personal level.
Kindergarten is a time to mold students to be great people, to mold students into loving learning, and to mold students to love to read!
At the age of five scholars should be excited about getting to go to the library and excited about reading new books that they enjoy! This project would help my scholars not only be more excited about reading but also help them grow by being able to practice the skills they need.
