My students students come from an economically fragile area. Most of my students come from homes where the family, or someone close, is on some kind of assistance. Through all their own struggles, be it personal or financial, they survive. That is the one thing that gets to me about the community I teach, the preservation of the family. They don't give up on each other. They have taught me, that as their teacher, I shouldn't give up on them.
My ninth graders are quite energetic.
They have seventy million questions by 7:22 am; class starts at 7:20. They are all in the Honors program and truly want to learn. They love to read, laugh, draw, imagine, and dream. They want to work to make their hopes come to fruition. I'm teaching future doctors, lawyers, architects, web-designers, actors, musicians, artists, and teachers.
My eleventh graders are quite diverse. I have some that are higher achieving, and some who are almost there. These kids are preparing for their future, which is coming pretty fast. SAT and ACT prep is a part of daily conversation. The change between 9th. and 11th. is huge. "Life moves pretty fast,if you blink, you'll miss it."
These materials will impact my classroom immediately! I have a lot of students who love to read. They like the feel of the book, not the glare of the computer. I want higher-interest books for them. If they find books to read for pleasure, they read more.
The easels and post-it papers make it much easier to do group assignments and present information.
I have a lot of kids and group projects are a must!
I would love these items for my students. They deserve all that and so much more. It definitely will make a huge difference for the entire class.
