Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an inner-city school, with a population of over eleven hundred students. Our neighborhood is a high poverty, high crime area. We are a Title I school, with all of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch. We are at least ninety percent English Language Learners. Many families work multiple jobs and sometimes live with multiple families in a single home. There are homeless families at our school as well. With so many obstacles in their lives, education isn't the parents' priority. Even so, our teachers work hard to provide the students with the education they deserve.
When a student walks through our front gate, they have a hunger for learning.
I have eager minds and smiling faces waiting for me every day. No matter the obstacles these students are faced with, they enjoy the experiences and challenges they receive. They are sponges soaking up all the knowledge they need to be successful. Students know that we are providing them with the best education we can. The students know we care.
My Project
There are students at our school that experience homelessness in different ways. Some students live in motels/hotels for different periods of time. Some students are in and out of relatives houses. Some students are in a shelter. All these students don't have a home. There are many things these students need and this project will provide them with the basic hygiene necessities that will make them clean, confident, and able to face their daily struggles.
Regardless of a child's living condition, they deserve the basic necessities for good hygiene.
This project will provide shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and toothbrush caps for students to keep their bodies and mouths clean. There is also cleansing wipes for their hands and faces as well as hand/body lotion. Each family would receive a first aid kit. There will be reusable water bottles so the children can have water at all times. A reusable bag will be provided to hold all these items along with anything else they may need to carry from place to place. The project would include a toy cube puzzle to keep the children's minds busy and active while away from the school. Lastly, this project includes granola bars so I can provide some help when a child has not eaten or may still be hungry.
Although these items may seem basic to most people, they would change a child's outlook. They will make the kids feel clean and be happy. When kids are confident and happy, they do better in school. Thank you in advance for any support you can give our most needy children.
