Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Remember the feeling of writing the first word on a new sheet of paper? The smooth gliding of a brand new pen? Back to school shopping is always exciting for students, but when a student knows that their parent's priorities don't include pens or notebooks, the idea of going back to school is daunting.
My students are eager and motivated to come to school and learn daily, though there may be economic hardships for some at home, they make the most of what they DO have.
Curious, enthusiastic, and creative; my students are eager to immerse themselves in any kind of challenge. They deserve to be well prepared to take on the new year.
My Project
Sometimes the economic hardships at home follow our students to school and this affects their education. Most of my students come from low income families in NorthEast Los Angeles. Some parents work two to three jobs and are trying to survive. They encourage their children to pursue a higher education, but at times can't afford the most basic of school supplies and that's where donors can help. Basic school supplies like pens, pencils, colored pencils and rulers will allow my students to feel prepared and excited for the year ahead. In English class our students will use the poster boards, construction paper and colored pencils to create character posters where they will display character traits and their character boards will be displayed for all to see.
All students are capable of learning, they just need to be well equipped with the right tools!
Coming from this area expectations for our students aren't very high. We strive, as a school, to make sure that our students develop their own high expectations to become the best version of themselves. Although some people may not believe in their future, our students believe in their own futures! Help us lift our student's spirits and show them that they are capable of so much more than what the world expects from them!
