Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, easily lovable, thoughtful, and very animated individuals. They come to school each day ready to learn and throw themselves into a new challenge every day. My students love to work with any tech tool they can get their hands on. They love anything hands-on that helps them learn and grow as a learner.
Many of my students come to school with such a positive attitude although they face a more challenging environment at home.
Our school is nestled in Camden, New Jersey where many individuals face poverty and struggle to find employment therefore making it hard to supply their children with the materials to be successful in school. Many kids do not have basic school supplies to start the year, and some do not have book bags when they come to school.
We provide our students with every possible option to be a successful student and to feel successful in a safe learning environment. Students are encouraged to be who they are and to be leaders of the future. I have an incredible group of students, and look forward to seeing them sprout into seasoned leaders.
My Project
Books allow a young reader to dive into a world outside of their own and experience the perspective, feelings, and growth of a character through their own eyes. Having books available in my classroom that would interest my students is a must. My students will be able to choose from genres they enjoy, and find a title that interests them. Having different levels of books will help my students recognize how they are growing as a reader. We just need your help to get them on the shelves!
My students will be able to fall into the pages of a good book by having multiple genres and levels available to them.
As there aren't many fiction books available for us to choose from in our library, I added quite a few to the list. These books will help develop my students as lifelong readers. What makes me happiest as a teacher is to see one of my students choose a book that they truly want to read and love it, rather then read because they were told to read. As there aren't many fiction books in our guided reading library I added quite a few to my project to help develop good readers.
