I have an amazing set of reading intervention students in grades kindergarten through fifth. I teach at a very diverse school in MN. My school is classified as a high-poverty school with many students on the free or reduced-price lunch program.
My students have a wide variety of abilities, interests, and challenges.
From learning support students to English language learners, I am here to teach them all and give them the best education possible that meets their unique needs! My school rocks!
There is compelling evidence that interest is related to learning. The assumption is that students are more likely to attend to and learn from interesting materials as opposed to uninteresting materials.
Research has clearly demonstrated that interest has a powerful facilitative effect on cognitive functioning Therefore, I want to provide a variety of high-interest, high-level books for some of our excellent readers.
Each February we celebrate I Love to Read month by focusing a lot of attention on the love of reading. Students participate in various reading centered activities. One of their favorites is a new book giveaway. At this book giveaway, I want to make sure all reading levels are accounted for. I am asking for books like the Percy Jackson Series, Ghost, Sisters and the Kane Chronicles just to name a few.
