My students are enthusiastic, inquisitive, and eager to show the world what they know. In our classroom, we support one another and strive to make everyone feel as though they are part of a classroom community. This will be my first year in fourth grade and I had the opportunity to teach many of these students in second grade as well.
One thing that I truly love about this class is that they enjoy discussing what we are learning.
This not only allows me to check their understanding of the concepts but also see different ways of looking at a problem. I love being able to see different strategies for solving math problems or hearing their perspectives on the stories that we read. The fact that they are not nervous about discussing what we're learning has really helped them to be successful learners.
My Project
I am requesting a copy of "Phineas L. MacGuire Erupts" for every fourth-grader at my school. Our school will be doing distance learning for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.
My goal is to give my students material that will keep them engaged and inspire them to continue to learn.
The fourth-grade students just finished reading, "Phineas L. MacGuire gets Slimed" in our reading curriculum during distance learning. We were fortunate enough to have a copy of this book for each student to read at home. Our teaching team is taking turns reading chapters of the book for our students to read along with. This has allowed us to connect with our students even though we cannot have them in the classroom during this time.
