This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Gone Fishing! The many students in my art classes would love to hang this sign outside of our classroom door. A Gyotaku Fish Printing Kit would allow them to learn new printmaking techniques and learn about an aspect of Japanese culture.

I teach at three different elementary schools in North Carolina so my students come from a variety of backgrounds.

Many of them live in high poverty areas and have limited opportunities to receive enrichment activities outside of school. Despite the challenges they face these students display an amazing amount of creative energy.

My Project

The Gyotaku Fish Printing Kit will allow students to participate in an activity that integrates history, science and art. Students will learn how some traditions grow out of a practical need and how to use various printmaking techniques to create art. They will experience both the esteem building that develops during the creative process and see how art has been practiced globally.

By donating to this project you will contribute to an ongoing process of building an visual art program that aspires to teach, challenge and celebrate students.

The students that benefit from using these materials will be able to expand their visual vocabulary while developing individual creativity.
