Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 29 wonderful 5th-grade students, which include special education students, magnet students, English Language Learners, and intervention students. They are very enthusiastic about learning and are always eager to explore new things. They love coming to school every day, and always have a big smile on their faces, despite the socioeconomic hardships they endure in the community in which they live. They attend a school in California, in a low-income neighborhood. The school is both a regular and highly gifted/magnet institution. However, my students are part of the regular school and do not have access to the materials and enrichment activities that the magnet students have.
My Project
"Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy", said Ludwig Von Beethoven. Indeed music can help students develop higher level thinking skills, which allow them to see things and the world around them in a different light. Most importantly, music can express things that words can't. By bringing music into the classroom as part of our curriculum, children will be given the opportunity to engage in activities that will demand higher level thinking skills. That is why students will use the recorders for an hour a week in the classroom. I will use the instructional books to teach students the basics of reading notes and play them on the recorder. Our goal is to learn to play the recorder and learn simple Christmas songs so they can perform during our Winter Program in December. The students will perform for the parents, students, and staff. They are really looking forward to that performance.
Through music appreciation, they will not only become more intelligent but also they will feel more confident about themselves and be more appreciative of the arts, which is an integral part of their learning.
Thus my students will have the opportunity to obtain a well-rounded education. Thank you in advance for your support.
