Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are curious, strong-willed, unapologetically themselves, and are full of potential. For many of them, school is the only place where they feel seen and can see beyond their current reality. They are ambitious and full of energy. Our students are deserving of a meaningful and quality education.
Our school is made up of 443 students all of which are from a historically disadvantaged community that challenges them to break through barriers while lacking access to basic needs.
Due to this, our students lack exposure beyond school and have limited opportunities to create experiences that support their growth, mindsets, and future goals. School may be the only place where they have access to create meaningful experiences.
Our goal is to minimize the challenges our students have and maximize a meaningful and quality education. Even with the struggles that our students face, they show up and give try their best every day.
My Project
Physical Education is a place where our students receive a hands-on learning experience daily. In PE, our goal is to encourage enjoyment of the physical activity and to keep students active, and engaged, while emphasizing kindness, and respect. Through PE, our students work on improving their health through the educational experience. Not only do students gain knowledge about their well-being, but they also gain a positive outlet through sports. The PE program offers all students the opportunities to learn about different sports and participate in them.
Our program can help lead students to find a passion in a particular sport that can later develop into scholarship and career opportunities.
By having a higher quality PE program, students can have the opportunity to learn about many different sports and have many attempts at garnishing an interest in each sport they try.
We are rebranding our Physical Education program into one that has a consistently higher quality educational experience that aims at student learning and achievement. Currently, we are limited on our supply of equipment, and the equipment we do have is not in the best state. Students are always asking about trying out different sports, but with our limited supply, we simply do not have the resources to do so. At times we see students asking for a certain ball because they know that one is the best one and it is disheartening knowing that that is the best we can offer. By having newer equipment all students would be able to all use a good ball and students would all be able to have a fair number of practices. This donation would be beneficial to our students as it will lead to an enhanced educational experience and provide more opportunities to participate.
