I teach an amazing bunch of students. We are a community located in the heart of a blue-collar neighborhood in a large, urban area in Indiana.
Sports are a powerful tool to build confidence, pride, and learn valuable skills for post-secondary life.
You can't help but get excited about life when you are around our students. This community has a proud athletic history. What they lack in financial means to support the team, they more than make up for in school spirit.
My Project
Imagine playing golf or tennis at your high school. So much of their performance depends on how they feel. Which, is often tied to how they look and what people think of them.
No student should have to walk onto a court or golf course and look like every stereotype someone has of them.
This is where I need your help. For the first time in a number of years, our school will be providing the opportunity for our students to be on a Golf and Tennis Team. We are literally starting from the ground up. Being new means everything needs to get purchased. This includes what they will wear on the golf course and on the tennis court. When they get off the bus the value of all wearing matching polo shirts, duffel bags, sideline towels, or jackets is a powerful thing. Looking like a team means you feel like a team. That means unlocking the true power of high school sports. Golf and tennis allow them to learn the lessons that help them become successful community members after graduation. Help me give them the power of pride, self-confidence, and the knowledge that someone cared to provide them this opportunity and skills they will use for the rest of their life.
