Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Technology is ubiquitous, affecting almost every part of our lives. Yet most schools fall back far behind when it comes to integrating technology into the classroom environment. Properly used, technology will help students acquire the skills they need to survive in the 21st century.
Our school is in a rural Arizona community, close to the Mexican and Californian borders.
We have a diverse group of students, all of whom have CHOSEN to attend our school because of the rigorous, fast paced curriculum, learning environment, and learning opportunities provided to them. Our students are amazing and as a school we want to give them all possible opportunities to show all of their knowledge.
According to PBS Learning Media, 70% of teachers with access to technology in the classroom for their students say it "enables them to do much more than ever before." My 60 5th grade students, and I, could not agree more. Having technology in the classroom opens so many doors for my students.
As a school focusing on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education, technology is not only a convenience, but a necessity. We need information to be accessible and relevant to our students lives, and technology allows us to do just that.
My Project
We are looking to fund 3 GoPro video cameras (with protection plans) to use in our classroom. Access to this type of technology will allow our students to explain, demonstrate, and present their ideas to their peers and to the global scientific community.
This camera can be attached to pretty much anything. It records from the perspective of the object or person it is attached to. There are a number of classroom uses for this kind of technology from science, math, and writing, to social awareness aspects. The opportunities are endless!
This project will bring my 5th grade science classroom to the next level.
All the items requested will help my students become 21st century STEM scientists. School needs to be a place where what students learn prepares them for the world and ignites their curiosity. Technology helps support people who think outside the box!
