This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

John F. Kennedy once said, "Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity." My students are excited, energetic middle school students who love to move around. They thrive on being able to get their energy out and what better way than physical education class? My students come from various backgrounds, including rural families, single parent families, immigrant families, and active or retired military families. They bring different views and beliefs on life but bond over activity and sport.

My physical education and health classes work on social skills, inclusion, teamwork, collaboration, creativity, responsibility, and relationships.

These skills are needed for middle school students as they grow into wonderful adults.

My Project

Boxing gloves and punching bags will allow the students to be able to engage in a physical fitness unit that requires discipline, focus, strength, and respect. We will work as a class to learn basic punches and kicking skills that will build upper body and lower body strength and endurance. It will challenge students to be quick and precise in learning self-defense. The boxing gloves and punching bags can not only be used as a PE unit but also as a health unit to find a way to channel stress and frustration that students face on a day to day basis.
