This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students in this new instrumental music program have so much energy to learn, advance, and share their talents. However, they have so much new music to store that their paper folders (which they take home most nights to practice) are falling apart!
Our students are tenacious, determined, and very talented.
They are learning to be musicians! My school is strongly rooted in community, family, and a sense of belonging. Our school has not yet reached its full capacity. We are a growing community with several areas of need. The students here deserve the best and they are currently fundraising to provide themselves with the materials that we don't have.
My Project
We have acquired a nice storage system in which to store some nice, new folders. Their current folders are falling apart and their music gets lost or damaged. With these new folders, they will take pride in keeping their materials neat and in place. Life skills such as responsibility, tidiness, and pride come from the opportunity to practice, grow, and exhibit the work they've done in band/orchestra class. Music can and does change lives.
My students yearn for a sense of responsibility, belonging, and family.
These band and orchestra classes provide a safe space for a lot of students. Being able to share proper materials with them will change our school community in such a positive way. Folders that are all nice and matching only adds to the sense of a stable, reliable, and positive experience.
