My Students

The library is a busy place during the school day and during the summer. We have projects, from puzzles and LEGOs, to iPads and video production, available at all times. It is the hub of the school!

Our library is a place students love to come to, and not just for a good book.

Our school has a population of over 600 Kindergarten to 5th grade students. All visit the library for 45 minutes at least once a week. We are happy that we have created an environment where students feel welcome to come many times during the week outside of class time. We are a growing rural community with almost 50% of our students receiving free or reduced price lunches.

My Project

We have a great summer program planned this year and want our students to learn about the economics of gold! This summer our students will be panning for real gold! How fun is that? They will search through REAL Alaskan pay dirt.

We need six copies of Gold Panning Paydirt to learn about the economics of gold!

Students will love panning for gold with their own hands. We will weigh the gold we find and do the math to finds its value. We will compare gold with other forms of currency. Students will also read and learn about the California Gold Rush in the mid 1800's. I know our students will love learning about Gold Economics!
