Help me give my students the opportunity to learn first hand what it is like to pan for gold! We have been working hard reading about it, but this hands-on experience will help make real-world connections.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title I school in Dixon. My students are an amazing group of kids. I had the opportunity to teach some of them in 1st and again in 2nd when I looped with them. Now I have an opportunity to teach them again, and we are navigating through 4th grade together.
Most of our families are low income and language learners.
However, that does not stop them from doing their best and wanting to learn. They work hard and are excited to learn. They love to try new things and are huge fans of hands-on experiences. Even in 4th grade they still LOVE station activities.
They truly are the sweetest group of kids. They get excited about the little things and try to make me laugh at least once a day. We have a great classroom community. Everyone accepts each other and works well together. I am thankful to be their teacher!
My Project
My students have been working hard to learn about the California Social Studies Standards. One of the major standards we cover is the Gold Rush. While we have great discussions about what we are reading, nothing will help us understand more than an opportunity to have a hands-on experience.
While this is a wonderful opportunity for our students, it is also very costly.
Besides the bus fee, the activities cost $12 per person. If students were to pay for the bus and the activities, we would be asking close to $50 per student. Many of our families can not afford that amount. By donating, you are helping pay for the bus and reduce the cost for each student.
Additionally, we end the year performing a play about the Gold Rush for our families and classmates. We can apply what we learned panning for gold and making pokes to help us do a better job in the play. Most importantly, my students work so hard and deserve a fun day out of the classroom to learn!
