Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love reading and technology! They participate in centers on a weekly basis and one of their favorites is the listening center! The problem is there is only one CD player!
They need upgraded technology to access high quality apps to practice crucial skills and strategies in literacy!
My students are incredibly hard-working.
They enjoy working together and learning as a classroom community. One of their favorite parts of the day is center time! They look forward to practicing their reading and writing skills and strategies during this time. My students receive specialized education support to help them meet their academic goals.
My school pushes students to be independent and literacy centers is a perfect time for students to practice working independently! They have an opportunity to learn to problem-solve, persevere, and increase their focus and stamina during literacy centers!
My Project
The listening center helps students practice crucial literacy skills, but right now my students only have access to a CD player in this center. Providing my students with tablets at this center instead will allow students the opportunity to differentiate and choose the activities that they work on.
Students will have the opportunity to work on apps that help them practice: spelling, sight word recognition, reading fluency, phonics, rhyming, etc. All of these skills will help students become stronger readers and writers!
Additionally, opening my students' eyes to the world of technology and how it can be used as a learning tool will help foster student's independence and encourage them to begin to take charge of their own learning!

Providing students with tablets in the listening center will give them the opportunities to practice skills and strategies at their individual level! When students have the opportunity to practice reading and writing skills and strategies with technology at their level, they are highly motivated and engaged!
