Many of the students in our school come from a high poverty area. Some do not have the opportunity to go places and explore new things due to financial constraints. Sometimes, what our students really want is a place to go that is safe, loving and fun. Our students are full of energy and love hands-on learning.
My kiddos work so hard and diligent all year to perfect their social-emotional skills as well as academics.
When students can engage with family members, their social emotional skills grow and they have fun!
I have requested a grocery cart for my students to play in our house keeping center! Our students love to pretend and to help each other and this would be the perfect addition, particularly with our community helper unit!
We only get one field trip a year and use it to go on a "walking tour" of a nearby shopping center, which includes a grocery store!
By having this addition to our classroom, students will be able to create home to school connections and act out what they saw.
In housekeeping, students are not just playing, they are learning. Kids between the ages of 3-5 learn best through play. They work on Communication skills, turn taking, cleaning up, etc. This grocery store would add real life to our room and create a fun activity for students to engage in!
