This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are spunky, excited, nervous and eager all at the same time. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I know my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to make learning meaningful for my students while preparing them for the future and future successes. One-hundred percent of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students come from homes that are full of trials and tribulations, and some of my students do not know where their next meal is coming from.
My students are my world, and I love to bring the world to them.
My students are engaged and eager to learn about everything. They encourage and motivate me as a professional and they also encourage each other as individuals.
Like the rest of the US, we are not in the school building right now. We are looking for ways to connect with students while creating distance learning opportunities!
My Project
Like most other schools, we are not holding classes in our school building at this time. We are following a strict distance learning plan which requires our students to complete work online. Unfortunately, many of our students face a myriad of barriers to accessing this content. It is my hope that I will be able to safely drop off at least one book to each of my students during this challenging time.
We have worked so hard this year, I would love for my students to be able to continue reading!
Reading can provide a sense of familiarity and comfort during this strange time.
