This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I've worked at my school on staff with the marching band for five years and became the band director this past school year. I can genuinely say that I work with some of the kindest, most passionate kids I've ever come across. They deeply care about music and their band community.
Richfield, the state of Minnesota's oldest suburb just south of Minneapolis, calls itself an "urban hometown".
We have the community of a small town but the diversity and opportunities of a metropolitan city. Our student body is truly diverse, and we're stronger because of it.
My Project
Minnesota's marching band scene is very unique. Many schools have traditional fall programs while we and others have competitive marching bands that perform a short show during summer parades - similar to what you'd see at the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. Our 2018 show is called "Uprising" and includes "Bad" (Michael Jackson), "Can't Hold Us" (Macklemore), "Uprising" (Muse), and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" (Greenday).
We built our show around a strong senior trombone student, and we need a wireless mic system to amplify him.
We're weaving in a story line, with the trombone student as the protagonist, and we want to clearly bring the audience attention to him.
