Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine being able to see plants growing outside, flowers blooming, and insects in the pond! My students and I take field trips to our pond and are growing plants and trees both inside and outside and having a tablet would supplement their learning because we could have environmental lectures outdoors.
I have 25 amazing students that wish to make both their school and their rural community a better place to live in.
They want to plant and grow their own trees. They want the sense of making a difference not only in their community, but making an impact on saving our planet. My students are so deserving and come to school always wanting to help others and are greatly looking forward to promoting environmental awareness throughout their rural community outside of Texas. My student population is extremely diverse and composed primarily of lower economically disadvantaged children. Many of my students are ELL learners and require a great deal of visual aids to learn. But, even with these setbacks, my students are motivated and are always ready to learn and take on new challenges in life. My students love science, but our learning of science is limited to textbooks, paper, and pencil. Allow them portable modern technology to conduct their Disney Planet project by getting us a tablet!
My Project
My students are extremely excited about participating in Disney's Planet Challenge this year and being able to work hands on and grow and plant trees around their rural community. To be able to research and record our findings we are needing a tablet that will allow us the portability to carry it inside and outside. We will be able to use it to graph our data, journal our research, and track daily growth of our trees, and take pictures of our plants.
When it comes to science my 3rd graders are extremely intelligent and at times tend to ask questions that even I as a teacher do not have an immediate answer for. Therefore, with wireless technology we can immediately research a question and encourage students to continue to think outside the box. When a student asked me the other day while outside and seeing a ladybug "how can I grow my own ladybug house," I could not immediately answer. I had to wait to provide her an answer, but having a tablet could eliminate the wait.
Your donation will allow my students to work with modern technology, work in groups, and connect to the Internet and submit our Disney portfolio.
In addition this project will also allow my students to study about, explore, and engage them in ways that only science can. It will allow them access to research questions that are beyond our intelligence while working outdoors with our plants and trees. Help my students become future scientists by working with portable modern technology.
