This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title I school located near Fort Bragg, NC. My students come from a variety of backgrounds including military, high poverty, and single-parent households. My students enjoy coming to school as an escape from other aspects in their lives.
Last year, we became a Global School, which means that our students will be learning about the world.
Every grade level is assigned a continent that we focus on throughout the year. By the time my students reach 5th grade, they will know about many countries, cultures, and traditions. My students are so amazed at all that they have learned so far and are asking to know more about the world all around them!
My Project
At the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year, we went global. It has been a slow journey to go global and the biggest challenge is lack of resources. I am requesting a kid friendly globe, map of the world rug, and two child-friendly atlas texts. These items will be hands-on ways that the children can explore the world. I am also requesting play passports for each student in my classroom to help to simulate the global experience.
We have been working on "traveling around the world" by researching different countries and it has left my students wanting to know more.
My job is to facilitate their learning and give them the best educational experience possible. The purchase of these items will definitely ensure that this is happening in my classroom on a daily basis!
