My students need a Surface Pro tablet for our creative writing station.

I am a media specialist at a local, inner-city school in the metro Atlanta area. 100% of our students receive free lunch. Many of my students are under-performing and reading below grade level. I spend a good portion of my day building morale and encouraging students to read daily.
My school is comprised of students who are energetic and eager to learn.
However, some are reluctant and are often intimidated in classrooms comprised of both fast-paced and slower-paced learners.
“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” My students benefit most from lessons that are teacher-led and student-centered. My students love activities that are hands-on and involve technology. In the media center, I place a strong emphasis on literacy and developing 21st century skills.
My students need a Surface Pro tablet so they can have access to a variety of technology resources to create innovative digital stories. My students love incorporating technology into our daily classroom activities. We often use Google Slides, Seesaw and Book Creator for creative expression, communicating information, entertaining and expressing comprehension. With our most recent project, students created their own version of the “Three Little Pigs” using Google slides. My students love to create stories where they can express themselves, share their experiences and most of all use their imagination.
Digital storytelling will give my students the ability and flexibility to work with different web tools and software programs specific to the Surface Pro including Sway, One Note and Office Mix.
I want to give my students the chance to interact with the digital world with every learning opportunity. My students come from very low income communities. Often times, school is the only place where they can use technology for educational purposes. The Surface Pro creative writing station will be a brand new learning experience that will expose my students to a new device and allow them to create stories with more tools at their disposal.
I would like to install age appropriate graphic designs and storytelling apps that fosters a love for creative writing, self expression and technology. My students love to showcase their work. At the end of the school year, I plan to host a student showcase, where parents, teachers and students can come and scan different QR codes to view all of my students' hard work. I also plan to skype with other classes so that my students can share their stories all around the world.
