Help me give my students Cricut Explore Vinyl, a storage set, markers and marker boards, laminator, paper cutter and duct tape to make lessons that are engaging and seamless.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher at one of the most diverse and largest middle schools in Houston, with over half of our 1700 students deemed as low-income/high poverty, my students face several challenges both inside and outside of the classroom. I am looking to create a learning environment that is engaging and creative.
Based on the data many of my students are more than 1 level behind in reading and math skills.
I seek to help close the achievement gap in my classroom. Students will be obtaining the foundation they need to build self-esteem and motivation to becoming critical thinkers and life long learners.
My Project
My students are interested in lessons which are hands-on, engaging and implements their varied learning styles. A classroom is an ever-changing place. Students should be able to cultivate new learning experiences in a safe and welcoming environment where they are required to think both collaboratively and independently.

Due to a tight budget this year we were told to cut back on paper. Additionally, we have one paper cutter in the teacher's workroom to be used for our entire campus. To conserve paper I began to laminate worksheets and card sorts. These were key resources used in my classroom which allowed students to be able to write on assignments and be reused for the next class. Furthermore, we use marker boards and markers weekly, but we have a limited supply of both. With the use of creative projects as a form of tests, students will use the Cricut to create and the craft organizer to store their supplies in an organized manner to increase productivity.
Using card sorts, laminated worksheets, markerboards, and creative projects afford students a sense of choice which in turn empowers them to take ownership of their learning. All of these tools are used to effectively meet the needs of my students to expand their knowledge. By having a laminator, paper cutter, marker boards, Cricut, and craft organizer I will be able to continue to make more resources that my students enjoy.
