My Students
My students come from a diverse, lottery selected student population. In my class, students will do authentic work, immerse themselves in field experiences and experimentation, reflect on what they have learned and share with our school and community. They have opportunities to teach each other and through our project based learning approach, are already contributing authentically to our regional community. Students are excited about learning and have the opportunity to discover and pursue their individual interests within our project whether experimentation, graphic design, writing, photography, outreach and much more!
My Project
My students need field work supplies for our upcoming project, Go with the Flow. Survey lines and water quality testing strips will allow students to collect data at our research site, a protected wetland park at the base of the San Diego River Watershed. Binoculars will allow them to bird watch and allow them to practice taxonomic identification of species as well as compare and contrast migratory and non-migratory birds that rely on the park. They will use these field surveys to help them design lab research.
Lab supplies such as the stir plate and magnet bar will allow them to conduct more detailed professional standard water quality tests such as ammonia, nitrate and nitrite.
Students may use the ecology game as inspiration as we come up with brain games to teach our ecology findings to elementary aged students at the end of the semester.
