it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

As students with disabilities, it is important that they are able to participate in Special Olympics Team events with appropriate gear and equipment.
My students are energetic and fun inner-city high school students. My students have a range of disabilities including learning disabilities, visual impairments, autism and intellectual disabilities. A majority of them are also English Language Learners. They are an active group that love sports and competition.
My school is located in a large, urban city. Of our 3,100 students, 94% are low-income, 10% of the students have disabilities, and 8% are English Language Learners. More than 75% of my particular students are low-income, have disabilities and/or are English Language Learners. I teach my students not to let their personal home situations, English Language Learner status or disabilities hinder their academic or social emotional growth.
My Project
I am requesting uniforms and equipment to support our Special Olympics Team members. Our Special Olympics Team will participate in a variety of competitive events including basketball and track and field. It is important that, like other teams in our school, students have appropriate uniforms and equipment.
After each Special Olympics event, students return to school, excited to be part of a competitive sports, often showing their medals and team uniforms with great pride.
For many of them, their involvement in the Special Olympics Team, is their only extracurricular activity. Having basketball uniforms will help show they are involved in the school community as athletes. Having basketball equipment to practice with will provide students the opportunity to practice, improve on their skills and have the opportunity to bring home more medals.
