This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are an enjoyable group of students! They are full of energy but love to settle down with a good book during independent reading time. They absolutely love when I introduce new books to them. They eagerly wait for their day to go book shopping and place their new
books in their personal book bags.
This concept alone has helped build a community of readers! The students race to the library after they finish a book to leave a book review for a fellow classmate to use when selecting their next book! The students love this concept and has made reading more enjoyable for my non book lovers as well! The students have formed their own book club and even invited me to attend as well! We meet monthly during lunch and have formed some beautiful bonds over the love of books!
My Project
Books create warm emotional bonds between adults and kids when they read books together. Books help kids develop basic language skills and profoundly expand their vocabularies—much more than any other media. Books are interactive; they demand that kids think. Fiction and nonfiction books widen our consciousness. This will help my students become lovers of books and lifetime learners! Having a large variety of books to choose from will allow for our library to be student centered. The books will spark an idea for students to read more and understand that their peers can be active in their personal growth as well.
