My students need access to Nearpod Gold to bolster their 21st century skills on computer applications and to allow them to explore far away places they may never see in real life. .
My students come from both ends of the socio-economic spectrum. I have the high socio-economic students who have every advantage and privilege in life. I also have the disadvantaged lower socio-economic students who are disillusioned by the institution of school. Because of these extremes in my room, I am tasked to create a community of learners who work together for a common good.
Despite their various levels of capabilities, their interests and efforts are similar.
Most students want to succeed academically and socially; in addition, they want to excel with 21st Century learning and their extra-curricular activities. I want to take their learning one step further and give them the opportunity to be active and engaged learners in class every day.
My Project
Subscribing to Nearpod Gold will give every student in my classes access to different types of instructional materials. Nearpod is interactive, fun, and educational. I have a computer cart in my room with 30 Chromebooks. I use them everyday with my students for spelling assignments, mentor sentences, writing, vocabulary building, informational text reading and responding, and exploration of various texts.
My students want to collaborate and build with each other within a digital landscape, but not every student has the ability to work on a computer at home; so I make sure they have those opportunities in my classroom.
As 21st Century learners, their skills go beyond Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Nearpod allows collaboration boards and drawing slides for those types of conversations and lessons. With Nearpod Gold I can assign individual students lessons depending on their levels or needs. Upper level students can use Nearpod for enrichment purposes like exploring ancient ruins in Greece. Students who struggle with their language skills can practice parts of speech and writing correct sentences while building toward writing paragraphs.
