Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a Title One school where 82% of students are low-income. My advanced band and orchestra are scheduled to compete in the Forum Music Festival here in Southern California. We have participated the past three years and have earned a Silver ranking.
This group is amazing this year and are going for the Gold but our school district has been hit with a budget crisis and we need your help to pay for a bus!!
We are active in the community. The orchestra recently performed for the Rose Parade decorating event for the Girl Scouts and the Band performs for the Latino Heritage Parade and will be marching in this year's Black History Parade here in Pasadena for the 5th year in a row.
They are dedicated to the art of music making, love sharing their talents with the community and inspire those around them. They are truly deserving of your help, generosity and this opportunity. Thank you.
My Project
The Forum Music Festival is an adjudicated event in which professionals in the field rank the groups according to to the California State Standards of Music Education. A Gold ranking represents student achievement in the top 10% of the state, Silver is the top 20% and Bronze is the top 30%. This project will help to boost the student's confidence in their individual and overall group performance and inspire them to want to continue their music education at the high school level as well as realize what can be achieved with hard work, practice and dedication!
They will return to school feeling proud of their accomplishment in knowing that they put forward their best effort and that the community is supporting them.
They will take this confidence to the other core subjects in school and in their personal lives. Many of these students are struggling academically and often struggle to find the confidence needed to be a better student. Music helps students become self motivated and find strategies that work both in school and at home helping them cope with the realities of life. The instrumental music classroom is a place where these students can find that confidence and put them on the path to college.
