My students need 22 copies of, Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. We will be reading it with students from around the world as a part of the Global Read Aloud Project.
Our classroom is an extremely fun and engaging place. Every morning, we start the day off by quoting Mr. J.E. Skeets, host of the The Starters on NBATV. "Good Day Sweet World!" can be heard proudly down our hallway. In our classroom, we are more than classmates, we are a family!
Our school is in a small, rural district in Kansas.
Even though we are a small, rural district, I believe our students deserve a world-class education. For the past few years, our school has focused on developing leadership skills in students. The results have been incredible! This leadership development has created students who are taking charge of their learning. It has created students who are proactive. It has created students who are solving problems and issues on their own and together. The students in our school are very creative and intelligent. Whether it's at the Spelling Bee, Science Fair, Young Author's Conference, Living Museum, or musical programs, the students in our school always give their best effort and shine. It's an honor to come to this school everyday and be a part of it!
My Project
I am requesting a classroom set of the book, Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. My students and I are participating in the Global Read Aloud Project. This project is going to be an incredible experience for the children! I will be reading Mrs. Hunt's amazing book aloud to the students during a set 6-week period. During that time, we will be making connections with classrooms from all over the world via Skype and other social media to discuss our thoughts and feelings about the book. I just know that these discussions are going to get students excited about reading. It would be awesome if each child had a copy of, Fish in a Tree. Having their own copy of the book will make the project even more powerful.
Many of my students never get a chance to experience life outside the corner of our state.
The Global Read Aloud Project will allow me to bring the world to those students. I would love for each child to have a copy of the book to read along with me in class. More importantly, I would love for each child to have a copy of the book as a memento of the time they participated in a world-wide project. I honestly feel that this project will turn many of the students into life long readers.
