My students need technology. A classroom iPad would provide my students with a more interactive learning environment that could be customized to specific learning needs.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager to learn and love to interact with their learning! I teach 1st grade and my students want to DO and not have me talk all the time. We have three student computers in the classroom but they do not meet the needs of 21st Century learners.
My first graders are a very energetic, fun loving, and inquisitive bunch!
I have a very diverse group of students. The majority of which are on the free or reduced lunch plan. I also have English Language Learners and student with ASD. I have kids who LOVE to read and those that don't know letters and sounds. I have math geniuses and those who struggle to recognize numbers. The one thing they all have in common is that they come to school each and every day wanting to do their very best. They love technology and my three computers always draw a crowd. They brighten up when we go to the computer lab or when I mention anything that has to do with the computer. Many of them do not have computers or internet access at home so school is the only place they can experience what so many other children take for granted.
My Project
Having an iPad in the classroom would transform the way I teach. Technology would allow me to use one iPad and interact with my entire class during whole group reading, math, and science lessons. I could also use different apps to diversify learning during small group instruction so that my struggling readers could work on the skills they need while my above grade level readers could use apps to turn their writing into an animated cartoon to share with the class.
The State of Florida is switching to an all digital curriculum within the next two years.
Having some of the future technology in my classroom now would give my students an advantage that many of them do not have at home. The use of the iPad in the classroom would make my students even more eager to learn than they already are. I can only imagine how much more they could learn and do if only they had the tools to help them.
