I am a school counselor in a public, PreK-5 elementary school. The students at my school are a diverse group culturally, ethnically, and economically. I work primarily with students in grades 3 through 5, providing classroom lessons and individual and small-group counseling services.
I teach students life skills, encouraging the development of emotional intelligence (EQ).
Among the skills that I highlight in my classroom lessons and small-group counseling sessions are emotional regulation, perseverance, teamwork, conflict resolution, and goal setting, essential skills for success in school, in family and peer relationships, and later in the world of work.
My Project
I am requesting pencils, wristbands, and bookmarks that will be used to fill graduation goodie bags for my 5th-grade students. These students and I have worked together from 3rd through 5th grade to build their social-emotional skills. Their graduation day is truly a day of celebration, not just of their academic growth, but of their personal growth as well.
These goodie bags will serve as a light-hearted, tangible acknowledgement of that growth and all their accomplishments.
I am also requesting photo booth props, so students can capture mementos of their friendships and time together before they leave our campus for area middle schools.
I am so proud of all these students have accomplished in their time at our school. I am excited to celebrate their graduation, and the items for the goodie bags and the photo booth props will add to our festivities.
