We are a Title I campus that services socioeconomically disadvantaged students. Unfortunately, we currently do not have any equipment available to engage our students in soccer programs or activities. As a teacher from a Title One school that has low income families, I come to work to make a difference in these students lives. Being affected by Hurricane Harvey, our students still come to school smiling. Some students face challenges at school and at home. They may not always come to school with all their supplies, but they never let anything stop them from learning.
My Project
Having soccer equipment available to my classes would open a wide array of opportunities for our students. My students have no equipment to get a soccer program started here at our campus. We are in need of two soccer goals, team practice jerseys, soccer balls, and flags in order to get soccer activities coordinated and in motion at our school.
Soccer activities would greatly benefit our school community!
Students would be learning to work together in teams. By socializing in groups, students would learn the importance of coming together as a team, as opposed to playing as just individuals. Learning to work together as a team is also a good way to build long lasting friendships.
The overall goal of having soccer related activities, during our physical education classes, is an increased level of fitness for all students. Kicking, blocking, running, and sprinting are all important parts of the game of soccer. The constant motion of the game will give students an increased level of physical activity that will improve their overall level of fitness. Having fun while getting into shape is an overall win for all students involved.
An added bonus of having this equipment would be for us to have the ability to start up an after school soccer club. This equipment would give our school the ability to reach those students that have an interest in this sport, and continue their love of this sport past the regular school day.
