Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from South Detroit in a wonderful community called Mexican Town. The diversity of the school with the students and staff make the school feel special. I am looking for ways to support my students in Reading especially with the 3rd Grade Law that will affect their promotion to the next grade.
My students have grown immensely based on their reading diagnostic from September up until now.
I want to continue to engage them in learning in more creative ways.
My Project
My 3rd grade students have been focusing all year on becoming a close reading through rereading, highlighting, and using those details in a written response. The materials in this project will allow me to transform my classroom into an engaging setting while still providing rigor and the same expectations of close reading. The materials in this project will also help my students feel confident and engaged while close reading a complex text. Instead of calling them close readers, I will refer to them as Glow Readers. The construction theme allows students to imagine close reading as a way of pulling apart the text to build deeper meaning.
