Globes for Global Scientists!

My students need globes! We use them to teach about plate tectonics, climate, seasons, day and night, as well as just learning some good ol' geography!

My Students

Learning science is grounded in the practice of sharing ideas, asking questions and building on ideas to explain the world around us. In my class I want kids talking, modeling, drawing and writing their ideas far more than I want them sitting and listening to me talk.

My students are awesome!

They are scientists at heart, even if they don't want to admit it all of the time. They are smart, curious, ambitious, creative, caring, crazy, hormonal, critical, and squirrely, like so many teenagers. They get sparks of inspiration when they can access the content, but some can often get discouraged when lots of reading or writing is required.

My Project

We use globes almost every day in my classroom. Whether we are learning about plate tectonics, weather, or astronomy, globes are an invaluable resource to have a physical model of the planet we live on. They also provide the added bonus of some interdisciplinary geography instruction in science class!

We need current globes!

While the location of the continents may not have changed since 1955, "French West Africa" is no longer an accurate representation of the diverse nations of that continent. When my students are able to find a country that they know, or are from, or have family and friends in, they immediately get excited to share and learn more. This engages them more in the science learning and teaches them about their own place in the world, as well.

Let's get some new globes to teach our kids about the world that they live in!
