Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students belong to the Global Travel Club at an inner city high school. These students are bright, inquisitive and eager to learn about the world around them. During our most recent trip, we traveled to Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Seeing the world has changed them forever. They have not only read history books, but they have experienced firsthand what they have learned in the classroom, giving them another perspective on history. After our last trip to Dachau, one student returned to class, and while discussing World War II, decided to share his experience with the class, as each student listened intently on what he had to say.
I want to take my students to see the world - literally!
Our next trip is to Paris and Italy. Our students also have the opportunity to earn college credits for this trip, which would be an amazing opportunity.
My Project
As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, global education is more important than ever. The best way to help students gain new perspectives and build skills for the future is through experiential learning. I am the adviser of the Global Travel Club at our high School in Paterson, New Jersey. I teach at an inner-city high school, and we literally take students to see the world. On our next trip we will venture off to Paris and Italy. We will see Pompeii, the Colosseum, and Versailles. The experience of travel is life changing.
This project will help cover the cost of a college course the students can take, Interculturalism & Global Exploration, that will earn them 3 college credits.
In this course, students will explore their destination, challenge their own assumptions, and discover connections between people, places, and cultures. The price of the course for each student is $215, so this project will cover the cost of the college course for five of my students.
