Collaborating, communicating, and creating is our 21st Century classroom. The challenge that we face as a class is having enough technology for students to create more. How are we supposed to prepare our students to become innovative, digital, global citizens without the proper equipment?
Our small school with a big heart, is located in the most rural part of our district.
Many times our school is overlooked when the district directs resources, therefore our students aren't afforded all the same technology advantages they deserve. The school is over 50 years old and even though our teachers work hard to provide the best quality education, we need support to provide the most innovative technology for our students. Our Title I school works hard to make sure that our upper elementary grades have the technology before others, because it is essential for them to learn how to use the technology before they leave our school. I believe it is just as important to put the same technology into the hands of our little ones, so they become more skilled in the early years. Imagine what they could become if they start exploring the worldwide web and global learning at such as young age.
My Project
A vital skill in this new digital world is the ability to work collaboratively, communicate virtually, and express yourself through technology. My students are limited in each of these areas, because our school is limited in the technology that we are able to offer our students. By having our classroom 1:1 with new Chromebooks, we are able to complement other forms of instruction. Children will spend less time dealing with logistical issues ("my pencil broke," "the blocks fell on the floor," "I can't find my book") and more time with hands-on learning. They are able to experience far more than what I could offer them in the classroom (a look into outer space, endless literature, instant feedback.) Students can record themselves reading, play phonemic awareness games, practice high frequency word spelling, write in a digital journal, blog about books, work on math facts and math manipulatives through online games and lessons, and create individual and group projects. The list of possibilities is endless.
This donation will allow our classroom to become 1:1 with technology and also allow my students to become global, innovative thinkers.
Students will be able to create, collaborate, craft, and become global worldwide learners. They will be able to experience a world beyond our small rural classroom through virtual field trips, communicating with others across the country and across the world, and have profound learning engagements in every subject.
