Amazing! My students are amazing. My Spanish classes are compromised of freshmen through seniors in levels 2-5. I have a fantastic mixture of students from military families to 13 year seniors in our school district to students that have chosen our school due to the academic and extra curricular recognitions we have received. In my classes, I try to focus on student strengths and interests in each of my lessons. I also try to give them real life scenarios and authentic use of the language as much as possible.
I always tell my students on the first day of school that Spanish is a life skill that they will never regret having.
The best part of my classes is showing them the value of language and culture and how we can use this knowledge every single day. Spanish is all around us. My students are not required to be in my class, they choose to take a world language. I think it is pretty awesome that they choose to take on the studies of new vocabulary, grammar, and culture in another language.
My Project
How awesome would it be for students to walk into our classrooms and feel the excitement and the magic that a company like Walt Disney World offers? This is closer to reality than we ever imagined! A once in a lifetime opportunity for a completely different professional learning experience is being offered this summer for teachers. For 3 days, teachers will be immersed in the magic of Disney, learning how this great company functions inside and out, and how we can apply this magic to our classrooms.
I want to bring the special feelings, emotions, and excitement that Disney gives their guests right into my classroom.
Disney pays such close attention to detail from the character meetings, to the cast members playing their roles and making you feel like you are the only one amongst a million, to the designs of each ride and the stories they tell. For content purposes, through the Disney YES program experiences, global citizenship will be a key component for our World Language classrooms. Through our training, I hope to teach my students how to be world citizens and to develop the 21st century skills that are needed now and in their future.
I believe this experience, with the fantastic leadership of our instructors, will be one that will create an incredible shift in prioritizing what is most important in education, the students.
