My students attend a Title I school which is considered low-income. My students are very enthusiastic about art and they love learning new things and having new experiences. I love to see the look on their faces and how excited they get when they first see their glazed ceramics. They are fascinated with the glossy sheen and the colors that have transformed from the glaze firing.
For most of my students, school is the only place where they engage in art making experiences.
They benefit from using a variety of materials in order to keep learning exciting.
This project will benefit every student in my school in grades K-5.
My Project
Buying glaze to paint our clay projects uses up a significant part of my budget and even this does not cover the cost of what I need in a school year. When I run out of glaze, my primary grades end up painting their projects with watercolors which are not as permanent. Even using gloss medium on top of the watercolor paint does not achieve the same result as using ceramic glazes. My Donors Choose project will also allow me to purchase more variety of colors and open up more choices to my students. There is nothing like seeing the excited look on my students' faces when I return their clay projects that look like they have a glass coating and where the colors have transformed in the kiln.
