This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is filled with extremely wonderful students that are eager to learn. Nearly 85 % of our population is at a low socio-economic level and have limited resources and academic support at home. There are often times we are in need of additional support for supplies to help enhance our students' learning and experiences. Despite challenges, our students show up every day eager to learn and work hard and their families are extremely helpful and supportive. Mentone is a special place filled with many special students!

My Project

Every student in our class will benefit from having their own copy of The Giver in their hands to use and follow along during our read aloud time. Unfortunately with many of our previous read aloud, we have not had class sets so students have had to share copies during instruction. This was discouraging for slower readers at times. If our project is funded students will be able to utilize this book as a resource to strengthen reading comprehension, read at their own rate without having to share the book, and will be able to take the book home to read if needed!
